Today, Riinvest Institute presented the latest report, "What energy mix do we need?", in the presence of representatives of national and local public institutions, the business community, civil society activists and energy experts, where key environmental issues were discussed for Kosovo's energy future.
The report was presented by Mr. Luan Shllaku, while the discussions with the panel of guests followed: Mr. Trim Tërnava, CEO of SunVolta Energy Kosova, Mr. Bernard Nikaj, member of the leadership of PDK, Mr. Besim Veselaj from the Department of Energy at the Ministry of Economy and Luan Shllaku from the Riinvest Institute, moderated by Bujar Pira.
During the discussion, the panelists considered important questions such as:
• Can Kosovo achieve its aspirations of European integration while simultaneously fulfilling the ambitious goals of the Green Agenda, especially in terms of dependence on lignite?
• What is the possible trade-off between economic growth, energy security and environmental sustainability?
• What might an optimal energy mix look like for Kosovo, given the limitations of lignite and development models based on the EU Green Agenda?
The discussion also included Kosovo's short-term energy needs and ways to create a sustainable and long-term energy system, taking into account the current state of the energy sector, existing infrastructure and the potential for new investments in renewable energy technologies.
